Recently I had a very bad experience with CGI Houston. The CGI Houston is one of the horrible consulate that any one can imagine. I applied PIO card for my new born. I forgot to send the birth certificate with the application. They rejected the application and sent all my documents to my friends home address who was also applied PIO card for his child. Surprisingly he got one more guy�s (he is from another state) PIO card application and documents in the same package. I was lucky enough that it reached my friends hand. Otherwise I could not imagine what would have happened to my application and also the Certified Check.
I don�t know the consulate want to save courier money or they are irresponsible?

I request everybody to add one line in the letter for Consular processing filers as they should be allowed to get AC21 and EAD facilities now. This law came earlier only for 485 filers because CP process was fast but now due to retrogession all CP filers are waiting for Years and in the worst sitauation as 485 filers are enjoying their freedom with AC21 and EAD

my case is quite funny.
Applications went to texas service center originally.
From there they were transferred to California where they issued my EAD and AP but transferred the application back to TEXAS.
Oddly enough the only thing that i initially got in the mail was a transfer notice and the ead cards. I didn't get the receipt notice, the AP or a FP notice?????/
Any Idea whether anyone got ead without FP?
Same with my case too. Got receipt notice only for my 485, No RN for EAD/AP and none for my wife. but received the transfer notice from CSC, case transfered to TSC and also received EADs.
Check with your attorney, they might have the receipt notices. In my case, they did have them. Also AP shows as approved, not received it yet and no updates on FP yet. Hopefuly will get soon.

What will be the basis for emergency appointment ? I was strictly warned not to mention AOS as the basis for the request as it can seriously harm.
I just checked the Mumbai consulate website (I am assuming your wife is in India) and the earliest available appoitment for H4 is July 27th. Why cant she take that? All you have to do is reschedule.
There are also appointments for H4 for Aug 3,6,8,10. She shoudl reschedule her appointment.

For those who think this is like another forum like alcoholics anonymous etc. I think that is what this is(not literally though). Without immigration voice or like forums we could be a lot worse. it is good to vent, exert feelings and come out with experiences and share them P2P. This is one of our life lines. How about anyone with a US Masters no matter if it was obtained before filing the GC or just last month? Almost everyone I know has got some US masters in the meantime over the past 5-7 years. The queue will not move if the provision just includes a degree. In fact a lot of EB3 India would benefit since most of us got a masters in the meantime even if it was something like some MBA or information systems management.
Sure the queue will be shorter if people with masters got a GC just as it will be if all spillover goes to the most waiting applicant first, not to mention it will be fairer.
So essentially this talk about US masters is just a self-serving way to jump the queue. There is no crab mentality here. Just trying push ones own importance using any pretext whatsoever.

How long does it usually take USCIS to accept the MTR. I am assuming if it's less than 6 months then we don't have to worry about being out of status?

Well, what is the point in saying it now, he should have said it in the 90s and early 2000 when industry was booming and people found a career path in coming to the US.
Right now, so much work is outsourced and it is continuing. Very difficult to get a IT job in US on h1b and IT consulting on h1b also facing so many hurdles. For any new immigrant on a software job who wants to get a h1b visa and green card - it is not an easy task.

My lawyer is asking 350 for EAD and 500 for AP for each person excluding filing fees.Is it normal.or Can I go to another lawyer for EAD and AP who is cheaper than my company lawyer.
In general they are inclusive ie 485 + EAD + AP for primary is $1000 and for additional is $500 which is a standard.

I think initially due to rush the NSC sent apps to CSC because either the person's residence was in CA or Lawyer, In my case my lawyer is based in LA, CA. But now CSC is trasferring back the 485 apps to NSC where the 140 is being filled (or may be there is some other criteria). I am waiting for the EAD and AP approvals and FP notice.

So my old company's lawyers got my Denial Notice today. USCIS is unbelievable in their incompetence. I got denied because apparently I filed when a visa date was not available. Why would i do such a stupid thing? Obviously the IO didnt take the time to do a little research to see why I filed when I did, nor did his Director who rubber-stamped the denial.
My I-485 was filed on August 2nd, 2007. The August 2007 visa bulletin released on July 12th, 2007 did indicate UNAVAILABLE (http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_3269.html). However, USCIS, amended that a few days later with an update allowing a month (through August 17, 2007) for all individuals who were current as of the July 2007 bulletin (including me) to file. See the attached link: http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/VisaBulletinUpdate17Jul07.pdf, USCIS issues an update allowing
It took me about 1.5 minutes on Google to locate the Update Memo. To think that an IO cannot locate this essential memo and would blatantly deny a valid application is beyond me. This is insane that an organization as important as the USCIS can be so inefficient.
I called their customer service number to see if i could resolve it in a simple manner. The jerk of an IO I spoke to said "you are not going to like what I am going to say, but you are currently out of status (since I am on EAD and AP) and will need to file an MTR. People may tell you to not pay the fee for the MTR, but I recommend you do, since that is the only way your case will be reviewed"
