This is my first post which was not positive. I am backing up :). I am proud to be part of IV. I beleive in this cause.
Buck up :) We all go through it. I never take it personally. I would definitely be happy if more and more members come forward and help, instead of "missing in action" when needed most.
We would be really happy if new members come up and take initiatives (i am now keeping my messages positive :) ) , more active members, more strength.
participation is contigeous, all we need is some self motivators and self starters to kindle the fire.

Having said all these, let me ask you something?
How many of you wrote to Dept. Of Labor to stop Labor
substitution when they put a comment period for the proposed
removal of Labor Sub?
Everybody knows that the system is broken. The whole point
is what are we doing to fix it? This is a foriegn land. So we have to
work thrice of 4 times harder to change the system in place. Are we
doing that?

Talking about diversity, those not familiar should take a look at an Indian currency note.
Maybe someone can scan and post one, I don't have any Indian note with me. You will see around 20+ languages on it. You can tell its different languages because they use different script unlike say German and French (except for the accents/umlaut). Actually the number of languages are much more than shown on the notes. For whatever reason AFAIK only languages with distinct script are classified as languages in India, others are called dialects. I don't know much about Canada, but wanted to point out that the Indian state of Kerala also has one of the top literacy rates in the world. And an excellent healthcare system. (Apparently, the expected lifespan of a Keralite woman is longer than that of women in the developed world. And something like 94-95% of babies in Kerala are hospital delivered.) Also, Kerala pays unemployment benefits to educated-unemployed youth; much like Canada. (See wikipedia or google for sources and citations.) Yet, Kerala is certainly nowhere near the top of the list of desired immigration destinations; in fact, Kerala likely has the largest proportion of natives working outside the state.
"A good place to live" does not necessarily translate to "a good place to bring your ambitions to life." (E.g., Kerala also has one of the highest suicide rates.) That's my point.
Anyways, good luck to those who want to move to Canada. IV is all about helping us work on our legal immigration to the US. So I don't think this is the appropriate venue for those who want to go to Canada.

I am not fighting with you believe it or not - just that some things said on this forum are just downright nasty. FYI though.. the Congo WAS colonized and terrorized by the Europeans. Hear of the Belgian Congo?? I don't know about Sierra Leone though.
I brought African countries not as scapegoats, but as examples of countries not colonized by Europeans. I didn't mean to insult anybody from Sierra Leone or Congo ;) But my point was that if there wouldn't be Europeans - there wouldn't be United States.

To set matters right - all 3 of them will require a change in law. IV is trying to recapture ( pont 2) through Admin fixes, but its not certain. It needs an Exceutive Order from Pres. Bush to happen. Its not 100% certain at this stage that such an EO will be issued.
Again, there are no guarantees which of the 3 will get passed or accepted. 1 & 2 benefit you more than 3. Will be combined effect of those be more than enough to offset 3 (which I doubt will ever happen since that will require a change in law) is up to anyone's imagination.

I would still puruse removing quotas unconditionally. Not everyone will want to buy a house here. We can always propose buying houses will help fix housing crisis, but that shouldnt be a must.
Instead, I would suggest pay $5K or $10K to expedite it. I am sure many people want to take this. If we are talking about 500,000 people, then with a $5K premium processing, it will generate $2,500,000,000. Is that 2.5 billion.. Not bad. This step wioll not hurt many.

2] 3.2K visas were available for EB2I for FY2009.
Assuming 3.2K visas are available every year from now on, it will take 60/3.2=18.75 years for all EB2I applicants upto today to be granted GC.

I really don't see how removing the per country ceilings alone without increasing the anual quota will help the entire comminity. If you do that alone all it will do is make the date retrogressed for all the countries even further. So where's the gain?
Getting the anual quota increased, not counting dependents in the quota and recapturing visas from passed years will help EVERYBODY.
If people want to think that something petty as removing the per country quota is going to solve all our problms then all the best (and God bless us all) ! :cool:

We have ask for increasing the GC limit from 140000 to xyz. The last increase was in 1990 which was after 14 years. Now 18 years have passed and there is no change in that direction.
Increasing limit cannot be fought in the court. It requires changes in law. Removing dependents from EB based GC consumption also cannot be decided in court. But removing per country limit for EB/GC can be decided in court. Just because we are fighting for one does not mean we are ignoring other agendas of IV.
