What rights did the Natives have in the 18th and 19th centuries when Europeans invaded their lands, and massacred most of them? Did they respectfully ask the Natives if they could immigrate? No? They walked in as if they owned this land. As a Canadian, I'm ashamed to say that this happened in my country too.

well said. actually there should be corresponding supply of green cards to the demand. as long as jobs are there and people are needed - GC numbers should be increased. but life is never fair - my advice (to those who want) - live life well , try yr best with IV efforts and make as much money as you can(and be ready to move out with it). I think country limits was set in green cards to ensure that not many people come from one country (because they become powerful as their numbers increase and become a voting bloc) - however migration from south changed everything.

While we are all sharing about our Amway solicitation experiences, let me share what I've seen in the last few years.
Background: In the last 6 years, I've been approached over 2 dozen times in the Bay Area. Things got so bad that the same guys have approached me more than 3 times in some cases before realizing that they've already talked to me before.
Incident #1:
A guy approached me while I was at the mall saying "hi" and striking up a conversation. During our short chat, this 20-something desi guy proceeds to tell me that he is the CIO of Fox News. At which time I pull out my iPhone and look him up using my LinkedIn app under the guise of adding him to my network. Turns out he is an engineer at a local company which he covers up by being embarassed and saying "I haven't updated my profile." I joke about how he moved up in his career so quickly - he then makes an excuse and walks away. I never hear from him again. Another reason to love technology!
Incident #2:
I get approached while shopping at the local GAP store. Being a veteran of this form of solicitation, I respond by saying that I work for the San Jose Mercury News and that we are doing a story on Multi-Level Marketing schemes. I ask him if he knows anyone who would be willing to chat on the record. This guys says "Nope, don't know anyone" and walks away. I never see him again...
Incident #3:
I am at the Nike store and get approached by this guy asking me if I work at Google (I do not). I tell him "Nope" and walk away before he can ask me another question. I have been approached by this same guy 2 more times at other stores (within 6 months) asking me similar questions. The 3rd time, I tell him - "We've spoken before - No, I don't work at Google, No, I'm not from Delhi and No, I'm not interested in what you are selling." He is stunned and walks away with his tail between his legs :)

The local Fry's is a popular hang out for Amway-types. I learned the hard way because I made my first mistakes here. Both guys that struck up a good conversation with me turned out to be Amway types. After the 2nd phone call, I tell them that if they call me again, I will report them to the authorities and Fry's for illegal solicitation and harassment.
This stops both people in their tracks. I never see them at Fry's again!
Bottom-line: Hold your ground, use technology and don't be afraid to kick them around a little bit. Saying "No" is golden!

A few points are truly ridiculous. Anguilla with its 5K citizens has the same quota as India or China? How does that promote diversity. If every Anguillan applied in EB2 their quota would not get filled. Yet India has more diversity of religion, language, caste and virtually anything else you can imagine except perhaps ethnicity. Guys, let's straigthen one thing out. I have heard here things like "flooded the market" or "why 90% of company are people of certain nationality". Well.. It's a very natural process, and it happened, happens, and will happen, and it's normal. Look at this scenario. Not to touch any nation, I would use Krakozhia as example.
Suppose you are from Krakozhia, you are pursuing American Dream, you found clients, you secured some funds and you are ready to open up a business and do something. Now you need people, you have two places to look up: American or foreign. Looking employee in the US is extremely expensive and risky business. 4 out 5 candidates will have no clue what's written in their resumes, will not want to work for you, will chill 2-3 months until you fire them, will be doing only one thing - sending resumes for a new job with better salary. Trying to hire Americans without good HR will lead your business to the dead end.
So you will look into foreign market. Where? Are you gonna go to China/Russia/India? Where you don't speak their language? Don't know local specifics? Of course you will go to your "Krakozhia", where you know people, where you know universities, and what kinda people graduate from where. So you will build a team and bring here - start working. Here is another fact - about 80% of jobs in the US people get through references. Yes, companies prefer to hire friends of employees, because they don't have to spend resources filtering people from the street. "Are you sure he is a right guy for the job?" - that's it, the guy gets hired. So, your first team will bring their friends/relatives - all "Krakozhians". And from the business point of view - it's the best way. It's not racism, not discrimination, not invasion - just business. You are just doing what is best for your business... business doesn't have races or ethnics groups. And btw, CEO is REQUIRED BY LAW to maximize profits. If hiring foreigner will be more profitable, then you are required in front of your shareholders to do so.
Only when the company will grow large, have good HR - then the company can afford hiring everybody from everywhere. And US government knows and accepts that, and it's happened in the US history many times. 100/200 years ago there were Irish, German shops. 80 years ago there were Italian shops. Diversity should not be based on "country" as well. For example I can easily say that "India" has to be considered as "20 different countries", if it divided based on diversity. And probably many of the europian countries combined should be "1 country".

No matter what the incremental benefit is, I think its blatantly unfair (like it was blatantly unfair to push some people to labor backlog centers and approving people with later PDs first) to change the rules of engagement and prioritization midway through the process and give preference to someone based on an ability to invest certain $$s in an house.......buying a house is a commercial and lifestyle decision........should not be a precursor to a USCIS adjudication.......
Actually you are right that such a proposal is not fair. But putting country quota is also not fair, when we are talking about EB GCs. And like you said, BECs were also not fair. So the whole EB thingie is pretty badly messed up. We are suggesting the Congress a way (an unfair way) to get out of this mess.

2005. The guy at the college said to the FOBs (including myself)...Dress in your best suits, we are goin to a business meeting! all of us got excited. the meeting was attended by people of all colors. felt good that desis are heading it! then i joined paying around $250. Slowly came to know that its not my cup of tea. The quickstar guys have only few brands of softdrinks and other amway products, always nagging others to join in, faking a spontaneous friendship. The speeches they give at the meetings are all almost the same. they seem to have a standard text, and have an aquired american accent. they talk abt being financially independent, but losing perspective, friends, decency. after a few weeks, i got my refund, and pulled out.
2006. TX. a stranger desi lady was being so friendly to me and my friend in a Walmart. After sometime when she was trying to give her hubby's contact details, i walked away. my friend was caught up, and he wouldnt come! I got many follow up calls from her abt business meetings. i said NO.
2007. a friend of mine comes to Florida from India to do a phd in chemistry. calls me up and says im coming to DE for a meeting. you should come! he said it wasnt abt chemistry. I could immediately smell some amway stink. i advised him not to go for it. im glad he and a lot of others stopped getting into this quickstar quicksand.
I mean, the weeds are everywhere! and at all times.
Just like Telemarketing is regulated at the federal level from using deception, i hope this amway mania is kept under check as well.

actaccord: I also want to see civilized discussion. But that is not possible with people like PlainSpeak/GCPerm. I know this person. He has always tried to create Eb2/Eb3 divide. The problem is not with language of some of the posts you referred as "uncivilized", the problem is that for every post there are hundreds of people silently reading each posts. Each post influences those silent readers. If unanswered snakes like GCPerm can cause a lot of damage.
In an open anonymous forum you need to develop a thick skin. Person of every strip and belief can post anything. If you cannot handle this, it is better for you to resign from accessing any or all websites.For a period of time, I felt the same way as you did but it does not work that way. Stop this nonsense of political correctness when snakes like GCPerm spit venom to divide everyone.
A forum is a combination of all sorts of ideas and expression. You may like some and you may not like some. If you or your friends find it so difficult to stand this expression, then please sit quietly in your home because you cannot join hands with anyone in this real and rough world. I do read most of the threads in this forum (whenever I feel free) i feel some of members who are donors/senior members feel they can get to fight (in abusive way) with any one on any thread no matter whether it spoils the image of forum or their response adds no value to the thread. These kind of attitude can be expected from new members as they may have wrong intentions (or to just vent their frustrations) to join in a forum. But people who are very senior and donors responding in uncivilized manner is not good for them as well as the forum.
I don't see anything wrong PlainSpeak's suggestion but I can't comment on if her suggestion is workable or not. But we can just explain what is right or wrong instead of getting into fight mode.
I would like to see some kind of administration control (removing the response, warning the members) on those threads with abusive/uncivilized response. I know it is tedious job but once we have senior/donors under civilized conversation controlling new members will be of easier as seniors/donors can report those unwanted conversations.
It would be great place to share ideas (good, bad, right, wrong) if those uncivilized response is reduced. The lesser the uncivilized response more the people willing to join hands.

In the whole thread only two comments make's sense to me rest doesn't belong/fit to this forum.

After reading those two comments I understand the issue and why IV took different direction or direction different from PlainSpeak's. But when I continued reading this thread I felt why some educated people with good intentions have bad thoughts and respond to others in uncivilized way. In the whole thread only two comments make's sense to me rest doesn't belong/fit to this forum.
Lets get more new members and be civilized to gain confident which will gain more strength to the forum.

This should not be a silly topic and won't be...I want to take this opportunity to bring the bigger issue here... things happen for a reason... we all need to understand that we have to make a positive out of this issue... Atleast all educated folks like us should be able to channel our wisdom to those folks who feels that they are above all... That kind of mentality should need to change in INDIA for people like SRK and politicians and lot of business tycoons.... I believe this incident is very good opportunity, one more time, once again for all those conscious folks who live here US and INDIA to make things better for life.

I like the way that you put things in a perspective called your own prism. I do agree lot of things that you say but you seem lack of very basic fundamental human touch...
World is a BEAUTIFUL PLACE... Mother EARTH is an awesome place to live... do not fall into a trap those who morons used and twisted great peoples words and made this place worse for political gains/reasons. Please do not twist/turn the great one and only Einstein words and his context is different.

All I am saying is that "IN INDIA WE GOT SOOOOOOO MANY PROBLEMS TO SOLVE" why SRK cribbing about this incident... and innocent/ignorant and un educated folks going crazy over there.... instead he can do lot of better things in INDIA so that he can be recognized all over the world and given respect.

Can someone tell me if this is right?
- Total number of EB-2 visas = 40,000
- 7% of 40,000 are allocated for India = 2,800
- Number of EB-2 I I-485 apps pending = 30,000
So if there is no spillover from other categories it will take north of 10 years for all the people who applied for I-485 in the July 2007 fiasco to get Green Cards. The only caveat to this would be attrition or legislation.
